How to Read Your Annual Energy Statement and Save on Energy Bills
Your energy supplier sends you an annual energy statement showing how much electricity and gas you used and what you paid. Most households overlook it, but it can reveal where you could reduce your energy bills.
The key numbers to find
- Annual electricity usage (kWh): Compare this with the current Ofgem typical figure for electricity use. If your consumption is significantly higher for a similar-sized home, investigate why.
- Annual gas usage (kWh): Compare your annual gas consumption with the current Ofgem typical figure. Higher-than-expected usage could highlight opportunities to save energy.
- Unit rate paid: Check the electricity and gas rates you paid against current energy tariffs and the latest price cap. If your rate is higher, you may be able to reduce your energy costs by switching.
