OwnGreen ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and your rights under UK GDPR.
OwnGreen is operated as a sole trader. Our contact email is hello@owngreen.co.uk.
1. What data we collect
a) Email address When you sign up to our newsletter, community, or enter your email through any form or tool on OwnGreen, we collect your email address. We use this to send you energy updates, guides, and relevant information. We do not share your email address with third parties without your consent.
b) Website usage data We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use OwnGreen. This collects anonymised data including your IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, and time spent on the site. This data does not identify you personally.
c) Tool inputs and enquiry data Our free tools and forms may ask for information such as your name, email address, phone number, postcode, property type, energy usage, income level, and other relevant details. Some of this information is used only to calculate and display your results and is not stored. Where you choose to submit contact details through any of our tools, forms or pages, this data is stored securely and may be used to send you relevant guidance, connect you with relevant services, or follow up with helpful information. We will always give you the option to opt out.
d) Community and account data If you join the OwnGreen community on Skool, their platform collects and processes your data in accordance with Skool's own privacy policy (skool.com/privacy). We may use your community activity to understand what topics are most helpful to our members.
e) Payment data If you purchase a consultation or paid service through OwnGreen, payment is processed by our third-party payment processor (Stripe). We do not store your payment card details. Please refer to Stripe's privacy policy at stripe.com/privacy.
2. Why we collect your data
We collect and use your data for the following purposes:
To send you the newsletter or energy updates you signed up for (legal basis: consent)
To improve OwnGreen's content and tools using anonymised analytics (legal basis: legitimate interests)
To display relevant results from our free tools (legal basis: contract/service provision)
To respond to enquiries and connect users with relevant services where they have submitted their contact details through our tools or forms (legal basis: consent)
To process payments for paid services (legal basis: contract)
To send you follow-up guidance or relevant offers where you have given consent to be contacted (legal basis: consent)
3. How long we keep your data
Email addresses: We keep your email address until you unsubscribe. You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email or by contacting us at hello@owngreen.co.uk.
Analytics data: Google Analytics retains data for 26 months by default. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Tool inputs (non-stored): Where tool inputs are used only to display results, they are not stored and are deleted immediately after your results are displayed.
Enquiry and contact data: Where you have submitted your contact details through a form or tool, we retain this data for up to 24 months or until you request deletion, whichever comes first.
Payment records: We retain records of transactions as required by HMRC for up to 7 years.
4. Who we share your data with
We do not sell your personal data. We may share data with the following third parties only where necessary to operate OwnGreen:
Google Analytics (Google LLC) — anonymised website usage data. Google's privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy
Netlify (Netlify Inc.) — form submission data from our tools and pages is stored on Netlify's servers. Netlify's privacy policy: netlify.com/privacy
Mailchimp (Intuit Inc.) — your email address may be stored with Mailchimp to send newsletters and updates. Mailchimp's privacy policy: mailchimp.com/legal/privacy
Stripe (Stripe Inc.) — payment processing for paid services. Stripe's privacy policy: stripe.com/privacy
Skool — if you join our community, Skool processes your data in accordance with their own privacy policy at skool.com/privacy
Approved service providers — where you have explicitly consented to be connected with a relevant service provider (for example, a grant installer or energy adviser), we may share your contact details with that provider for that specific purpose only
We require all third parties to respect the security of your personal data and to treat it in accordance with the law.
