A complete guide to current and upcoming UK home energy grants and eligibility.
ECO4 — ECO4 can help eligible households pay for insulation, heating and other energy-efficiency improvements. Ofgem confirms that the scheme runs until 31 December 2026. Therefore, eligible households should check their options before the scheme closes.
Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) — The scheme offers up to £7,500 towards an eligible heat pump. In addition, eligible off-gas-grid properties can receive up to £9,000 when replacing qualifying oil, LPG or coal heating. The scheme applies in England and Wales.
Warm Homes: Local Grant — Local authorities can use this funding to support eligible households with home insulation and other energy-efficiency improvements. However, eligibility and availability vary by council, so check your local authority for current support.
Warm Home Discount — Eligible households can receive a £150 discount on their electricity bill. The scheme has closed for now and will reopen in October 2026 for winter 2026/27. Your supplier applies the discount directly to your bill rather than paying it to you as cash.
Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) — The SEG pays eligible households for surplus solar electricity exported to the grid. However, each licensed supplier sets its own rate and contract terms. As a result, comparing SEG tariffs can help you find a better return from your exported solar power.
0% VAT on qualifying energy-saving measures — In Great Britain, qualifying solar panels, batteries and heat pumps can benefit from 0% VAT when the relevant conditions apply. The installer normally handles the VAT treatment, so check your quote to make sure it reflects the correct rate.
EV Chargepoint Grant for renters and flat owners — Eligible renters and flat owners can receive up to £500 towards the cost of installing a home EV chargepoint. The government has extended this support until 31 March 2027. There is also a separate grant for eligible households with on-street parking, which can also provide up to £500.
Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) — GBIS closed on 31 March 2026. The scheme supported insulation improvements for eligible homes across Great Britain. Now that it has ended, some households may instead qualify for Warm Homes: Local Grant or other energy-efficiency support.
Previous OZEV grant for homes with private driveways — The government closed several older chargepoint grant routes on 31 March 2026. However, support has continued through revised schemes for renters, flat owners and households with on-street parking.
ECO5 — There are currently no confirmed ECO5 launch details that homeowners can rely on. ECO4 runs until 31 December 2026, so do not assume that an ECO5 application will automatically open once ECO4 ends.
Future Warm Homes funding — The government continues to develop support for home energy efficiency, insulation and low-carbon heating. However, future schemes may change before they launch. Therefore, check official guidance for confirmed eligibility rules, funding amounts and opening dates before making plans based on future support.
