EV Chargepoint Grant Eligibility for UK Homes

The EV chargepoint grant

The OZEV EV chargepoint grant has changed significantly since April 2026. The current electric vehicle chargepoint grant can cover 75% of the cost of buying and installing a home EV charger, up to £500 per socket, for eligible renters and flat owners with private off-street parking. The scheme is available until 31 March 2027.

Who can still claim

• Renters living in a flat or rented home: You can apply if you rent the property and have an eligible electric vehicle and a qualifying private off-street parking space.
• Flat owners: Owners of flats, including shared-ownership flats, can qualify where they have their own eligible private off-street parking space.
• People in social housing: Eligible social-housing residents can apply where they meet the scheme’s property, parking and vehicle requirements. (gov.uk)

Who can no longer claim

• Owner-occupiers of houses with dedicated private driveways or off-street parking: The previous home chargepoint grant route for these households closed on 31 March 2026. The current resident grant focuses on eligible renters and flat owners, while a separate grant is available for households with on-street parking.

How to claim

1. Choose an OZEV-authorised installer using the government’s EV chargepoint grant guidance and check that the installer is approved to make a grant claim. (gov.uk)
2. Complete the eligibility checks before installation — you’ll need to meet the grant’s requirements for your property, parking space and eligible electric vehicle.
3. Apply for the grant before the EV charger is installed — for the current flats and renters grant, the customer applies through the government’s application platform, and you must receive confirmation that you are eligible before installation begins.
4. The grant covers 75% of the eligible cost, up to £500, reducing the amount you pay for the home EV charger and its installation.
